“Catechists are people who keep the memory of God alive; they keep it alive in themselves and they are able to revive it in others…. This is not easy! It engages our entire existence!… Dear catechists, I ask you: Are we in fact the memory of God?” Pope Francis
This is your on-line resource and information page. All handouts, announcements, etc., will always be published here for your convenience and will also be given to you when we have our catechist meeting; updates will also be sent to you via email.
THEME FOR THE YEAR: HOUSE OF PRAYER/HOUSE OF THE POOR
We will be introducing specific “rote” prayers each month to the children. Parents are to follow up and make sure their children know these prayers. This is not your job although we will be praying them together at the sessions. There will be a catechist in-service meeting on SEPTEMER 11, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lunchroom of the School. The meeting will last about 1 hour, 30 minutes. We will pray together, go over the calendar and provide all of the materials for the year. You will also receive your “to-date” class list although it may not be the final one as we always have people adding through the first month at least.
NOTE: Fr. Brendan Manson, our Pastor, has invited all Faith Formation Catechists to be commissioned at 9:00 a.m. Mass on September 18, 2016. Please mark your calendars and be sure to be there for prayers and a special blessing for the year!

SUNDAY SESSIONS PHILOSOPHY AND MISSION:
Our goal is to evangelize the WHOLE FAMILY, not just the child.
Our goal is to inspire parents to develop a deeper personal relationship with Christ and to empower them to talk to their children about God in a way that is authentic and intentional.
We know from experience and research that parents are the most influential teachers of the faith. If families practice the faith together, there is a much higher chance that family members will continue to believe throughout adulthood.
Families are invited and strongly encouraged to attend the 11:00 a.m. mass with their children AFTER the Sunday Sessions. However, we never shame or force anyone to go. Rather, our approach centers on fostering a deeper personal relationship with Christ which, in turn, will create a strong desire for the Eucharist.
Your main task, as a group leader/catechist, is to provide a wonderful, joyful, and fun experience of Christ for the children in your group. Each session is carefully designed to do this. Each session focuses on developing a relationship with Jesus by learning his story within the liturgical year of the Church. Each project is age-appropriate and has a script for you to follow. All materials will be provided for you–you do NOT have to find or buy anything!
We ask that you please arrive no later than 8:30 a.m. the day of your monthly Sunday Session. Come to the Faith Formation Office located across from the gym windows, about half-way down the hallway on the left. Locate the labeled cubby for your clipboard, handouts, etc. Larger materials will also be available in the office.
We ask that you please return your clipboards and any unused materials to the Faith Formation Office after your class. You are also asked to please stay during our hospitality break and for the final wrap-up and prayer.

We are also giving the Pflaum Gospel Weeklies to the families so that they will be more immersed in the Scripture this year. Our “Tiny Angels” and “Bigger Saints” (Grade 5) class will focus on them for the entire year. Here is a link to those resources:

Parents bring their children directly to the classroom in the school BEFORE the 9:00 a.m. mass. The children will be staying for the entire mass, giving you will have more time with the children.
We will still be using SEEDS, the same resource as last year. We will provide music and a CD or iPod player for you to use as well as any other materials.

Two catechists will be assigned each week. Parent volunteers will also be present to assist you. We are requiring that parents sign their children in and out each week. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. We cannot release any child until a parent comes for them at the end of mass.
The catechist meeting for Tiny Angels will be held on September 11, 2016, directly after the 9:00 a.m. mass.
HERE IS THE INFORMATION THAT IS ON THE TINY ANGELS PAGE:
Liturgy of the Word for Tiny Angels celebrates the Sunday mass readings with our little ones in language appropriate for a young child’s understanding.
Children in preschool and kindergarten gather during the mass for songs, readings, crafts, and sharing, all based on the Sunday gospel. The resource we use is SEEDS from Pflaum Publishing and is easily adapted for anyone to lead and teach. All learning is “hands on.”
The program starts October 4, 2015. Aimee Martinez, Sunday Coordinator, will provide a calendar of all parent assignments on that dates. We meet in the parish school. Look for signs.
